I love the documentary austerity of black and white. The recognizable content in this series of drawings is the garden and the land. The emotional feeling is atmospheric and photographic: images waited for and honed, sought on long walks through real time and memory. I use the camera as an aid to focusing my mind, but the images here are done after the photographs are thrown in a drawer, and emerge from a process of improvisation. All images © Iskra Johnson.
