These transfer prints were made during the 2009 heatwave when my studio was 90 degrees and up. My savior was the ice cream man, a wind-up toy from another era who has been sitting on my window for many years. I took photos of him and began to realize as I studied him that everything about him said "happiness." He became my totem for an ongoing series of work in which I take my camera into the world looking for symbols and symptoms of happiness each day.
